The scale of the “Social Notworking” problem?

21 August 2009 586 views No Comment

Teaching corporations and governments about effective online engagement, one of the main concerns is that employees will do nothing but waste time if they get access to Web2.0 sites. Alas, some stats from a few years back suggest that concerns may be well-founded. USA research by Clearswift of 800-plus employees in organisations of 1000-employees or more suggests:
43% of office workers access Web2.0 sites at work, several times a day
46% discuss work-related issues on social media sites
50% say they have a right to use work computers for personal internet access.
That’s why the introduction of Social Media Policies and Guidelines covering ‘appropriate use’ is an essential.
