Slow progress on corporate adoption of Social Media

2 February 2009 424 views No Comment

In 2007, we read with dismay a KPMG survey suggesting that almost 40% of execs from global corporations made no effort to understand the benefits of Social Media, so made no attempt to meaningfully incorporate associated technologies. One year on, Forrester Research claimed that - in the US and Europe - adoption of Web2.0 technologies was a priority for 56% of businesses surveyed in 2008. With 09’s global monetary squeezes, you’d at least expect orgainsations to explore the cost-efficiencies of social media…but in training Corp Comms departments we always caution them against believing Web2.0 to be the newest word in free advertising (ta to Ged Carroll for the brain prompt!)
