Test your Digital Literacy Skill level here

Was invited to hear Sydney academic Catharine Lamby talk in Melb today about ‘young people & media consumption’. In addition to pointing out how society has historically viewed any new media as corruptors of our young (novels, comic books, Sesame St etc), Catharine seemed to opine that Social/Digi/Mobile Media are giving kids a sense of freedom and self-empowerment, and actually helping their socialising skills. She also referenced Henry Jenkins, offering a checklist to gauge your own Digital Literacy Skills…this is my take-out from her presentation:
Problem solving…are the new digital/social media helping you see/think more strategically?
Appropriation…have you tried to interact/mash/work with digital content?
Negotiation…has Soc Med helped you encounter/understand diverse stakeholders or communities?
Collective intelligence…have you shared/pooled knowledge or compared notes with other onliners?
Networking…are you using web2.0etc to search, synthesise and send out information?

Footnote: Catharine’s an informed, authoritative yet effortlessly personable presenter.
